Break in at Sandfields, again!

I have just had a report in telling me that Sandfields has been broken into again, this time via the temporary panel in the front door.

I have relayed this message to Tim Brickley Director in Charge at Persimmon Homes. I have also copied in Debbie Boffin, the senior conservation officer at Lichfield District Council.

Neither of these two people acknowledged or responded to me reporting the last break in, but at least we can do our best and hope that no one get hurt in the mean time.

We need to be aware of what they are after ? Is there any valuable item there or is it just vandals?
It must be made secure whilst money is gathered together for the preservation of this vitally important heritage building .

David The two individuals you mention appear to either not consider this information important or don’t consider that we figure in protecting Sandfields. If either of these  are true then do you not think we should be involving other parties who will help to take some action?  Any one of these break ins could be the one which leads to serious damage either through theft or fire. Can we not apply pressure by involving the other bodies you have been in contact  with such as SHBT and English Heritage. If they were made aware both of the two break ins and the current state of the internals (from the photos which appeared on facebook) they might just be persuaded to help to get things moving on immediate remedial work.  I feel strongly that if we are to be taken seriously then we need to be pushing harder for attitudes to change Regards Brian

I have no idea why the two individuals don’t take this matter seriously; I never get responses to emails from either of them. In the case of the senior conservation officer of Lichfield this in my opinion is shameful. This person is paid by the public to serve the public, but somehow does not feel the need to do so. I wish I had a job like that. I have already told you that SHBT are not responsible for this building, so I am not quite sure why you keep asking me about this, because the answer is always going to be the same.

I have already informed English Heritage, on more than one occasion, again I have already told you this too. They say its the responsibility of Lichfield District Council, and the conservation officer, who doe snot respond to emails.

Maybe if we organised a mass meeting outside the district council offices, and primed the media, they may listen; I am certainly up for that.

If thats what it takes we need to do it. If ever there is a fire there it will be
        goodbye Sandfields.

David, both you and your committee are doing a splendid job,in securing the future of Sandfields.
I find the approach of the current owners and of the local authority both short-sighted and irresponsible.
This magnificent engine and its house have survived for 140 years, and to lose it now because of neglect caused by corporate cynicism and unimaginative politics would be unthinkable in my view.
I can’t help feeling that the ONLY response the owners are likely to make now,is to a (possibly legally drawn up) offer to take the the site permanently off their hands. We all appreciate the efforts being made to realize this ambition, and that it might not happen for a while, but I feel that this is now, might be the only way forward.
In the meantime, keep up the excellent work you are doing,it is very much appreciated.
